Lawmen Bass Reeves
Overview
Lawmen: Bass Reeves is a 2023 Western drama television miniseries created by Chad Feehan for Paramount+, based on the true story of Bass Reeves (David Oyelowo), one of the first Black deputy U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi River. The series is set in the 19th century, in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). Reeves was a former slave who escaped during the Civil War and lived with the Creek and Seminole tribes. He was appointed as a deputy U.S. marshal by Judge Isaac Parker (Donald Sutherland). The series follows Reeves as he arrests over 3,000 outlaws, including his own son. The series was a critical success, praised for David Oyelowo's performance and for its authentic portrayal of the Old West. It is a limited series, so a second season is not expected.
