Cocaine Bear
Overview
Cocaine Bear is a 2023 comedy horror film directed by Elizabeth Banks, inspired by a true story. In 1985, a drug smuggler dropped a shipment of cocaine from his plane over the mountains of Georgia. A black bear ingested the cocaine and went on a rampage. The film follows a group of characters who are trying to survive the bear: Sari (Keri Russell), a nurse who is looking for her daughter; Daveed (O'Shea Jackson Jr.), a drug dealer who is trying to find the cocaine; Eddie (Alden Ehrenreich), Daveed's friend; and a group of detectives. The film is a gory, ridiculous, and hilarious B-movie. The bear is a CGI creation, and it is surprisingly effective. The film does not take itself seriously, and it is a fun, entertaining, and bloody ride. Cocaine Bear was a commercial success, earning over $89 million on a $30 million budget. The film was praised for its humor, its gore, and its performances, especially Ray Liotta in one of his final roles.
